Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today unveiled the gold-plated Vimana Gopuram of the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Yadagirigutta in a grand ceremony.
The consecration ceremony, known as Maha Kumbhabhishekam, was conducted at 11:54 am, aligning with the auspicious Pushkaramsha of the Vrishabha lagna and Moola nakshatram.
During the ceremony, Reddy and his wife entered the temple through the Uttara Rajagopuram, where they were welcomed with a Purna Kumbham by temple scholars. They then proceeded to unveil the golden Vimana Gopuram and offered special prayers to Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Vanamamalai Muth's 31st Peethadhipathi, Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy, and adhered strictly to Agama Shastra rituals.
The dignitaries in attendance included Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari, Government Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Lok Sabha MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, and MLAs Beerla Ilayya and Kumbham Anil Kumar Reddy, among others.
The newly inaugurated gopuram stands at 50.5 feet, making it the tallest gold-plated temple tower in the country, surpassing the 33-foot gopuram of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala. The gold plating covers an area of 10,759 square feet and utilized approximately 68 kilograms of gold, and cost Rs 80 crore.
The project was executed by a Chennai-based agency, with contributions from various donors and funds from the temple's revenue.
The decision to gold-plate the gopuram was initiated in October 2021 by the then Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who donated over one kilogram of gold and encouraged others to contribute. The project saw participation from politicians, corporates, philanthropists and devotees.
The consecration of the gold-plated gopuram is expected to enhance the spiritual significance of the temple, and attract more devotees and tourists to Yadagirigutta.
