Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today requested Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to transfer 222.27 acres of land belonging to the defence department to the State government for the development of a Bapu Ghat at the confluence of the Isa and the Musi rivers in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and other leaders called on Singh in New Delhi this evening and submitted a list of demands.
Reddy informed the Defence Minister that the State government had decided to develop Bapu Ghat, the site where Mahatma Gandhi's ashes were kept, into a centre that would showcase Gandhian philosophy on a global scale.
Reddy also briefed Singh about the proposed Gandhi Sarovar project, which would include a knowledge hub, a meditation village, a handloom promotion centre, public entertainment spaces, landscaped ghats, a "statue of peace", and museums, at Bapu Ghat.
The CM had also met Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu earlier in the day, and requested his support for the industrial and transportation development of Telangana.
