The Telangana Chief Electoral Officer had issued show cause notices to 13 political parties that are no longer active in the State.
In accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudharshan Reddy today issued show cause notices to 13 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) that were no longer active in the State.
Under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, registration of a political party is intended for participation in elections. However, according to ECI records, these RUPPs have not fielded any candidates in the general or Assembly elections or by-elections over the past six years. This indicates that they are not functioning as political parties as envisaged under the Act.
In this context, the ECI has proposed to remove these parties from the registrar of political parties. However, before taking such action, the parties have been given an opportunity to provide an explanation. The show cause notices direct them to submit a written explanation, supporting documents and an affidavit from the party president or general secretary, by July 11, 2025.
The 13 RUPPs served with show cause notices are: Telangana Karmika Raithu Rajyam Party, Indian Minorities Political Party, Jago Party, National People's Congress, Telangana Loksatta Party, Telangana Minorities OBC Rajyam, Yuva Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (Ambedkar-Phule), Telangana Students United For Nation Party, Andhra Pradesh Rashtra Samaikya Samithi Party, Jatiya Mahila Party, Yuva Telangana Party and Telangana Praja Samithi (Kishore, Rao and Kishan).
The parties have also been advised that the party president, general secretary or an authorised representative needed to appear for a hearing on July 15, 2025. In case of non-response or failure to appear, the ECI will proceed with further action as per the prescribed guidelines.
