Chairperson of the National Commission For Women Shyamala S Kudar on Saturday arrived in Hyderabad and inspected the spot where Dr Priyanka Reddy had parked her Scooty.
She was accompanied by District Legal Services Authority advocate Deepika Reddy.
Kudar enquired with the people of the locality on
the ghastly crime.
Speaking to the media later, Kudar said that there was no compound wall to the open place near the toll gate where several lorries were parked and lorry drivers were consuming liquor.
She also said when she interacted with the locals about the incident, the people had told her that though they had lodged complaints with the police about the anti-social activities in the area, the latter ignored their pleas.
The NCW Chairman also said that she was told that even when Priyanka Reddy's parents had pleaded with the police to register a case, the latter had refused to do so saying that the scene of offence was not under their jurisdiction.
She also said that the visuals from the CC cameras were not clear due to the negligence of the police.
All of these pointed to a highly lackadaisical attitude among the police to the safety of women, she said.
