The 18th Grand Nursery Mela at People's Plaza, Necklace Road, is attracting large crowds of plant lovers and gardening enthusiasts.
Set against the scenic backdrop of the Hussain Sagar lake, the exhibition features over 150 stalls from across India, showcasing organic fertilizers, medicinal herbs, exotic fruits and ornamental plants.
Exhibitors from Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai and West Bengal are participating, and exotic plants from Kalimpong are emerging as a highlight.
Prices range from as low as Rs 30 to as high as Rs 3 lakh, with Rudraksha saplings, bay leaf plants, medicinal herbs and rare fruit trees drawing particular attention.
The mela focuses on sustainability, with plenty of organic fertilisers, natural pest repellents and eco-friendly gardening solutions on display, and has become a one-stop destination for terrace gardeners, homemakers and urban residents eager to embrace greenery and sustainable living. Organic fertilizers such as neem cake, castor cake, mustard powder and custard apple seed powder are seeing high demand, along with natural pest repellents as alternatives to chemicals. Visitors are also engaging with stalls promoting organic crops and healthy eating practices, making the event a platform for both green living and environmental responsibility.
For many, the mela is more than a shopping experience. "Growing plants ensures fresh produce and creates a sense of peace. Small ecosystems like terrariums are perfect for bringing greenery indoors," said one nursery exhibitor.
Mela in-charge Khaleed Ahmed described the exhibition as a heaven for anyone passionate about plants. "From pots and potting mixes to every type of plant imaginable, this mela has them all," he said, and invited citizens to experience the event before it concluded.
The mela is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm until September 22.
