Hyderabad | 24th August 2024
BRS working president K T Rama Rao today appeared before the Telangana State Commission for Women and gave an explanation for his earlier remarks on the free bus facility for women which led to the much criticism from various quarters.

During the proceedings, KTR expressed regret and formally apologised for the comments. He acknowledged that such statements were inappropriate and should not have been made by someone of his stature holding a leadership position.

The Women's Commission, while accepting his apology, issued clear instructions to him to refrain from making any such remarks in the future.

KTR was also informed that any recurrence of such incidents may result in further proceedings as deemed appropriate by the Commission.

Meanwhile, KTR's visit to the Commission was marked by tension. Only he was allowed entry into the office at Buddha Bhavan on Tank Bund, and the BRS women corporators and leaders accompanying him were denied access by the police. This led to a protest by the BRS women leaders, who raised slogans against the government. The situation escalated when women activists of the Congress arrived at the scene, leading to a confrontation between the two groups.

Later, speaking with the media, the BRS working president strongly protested the "attack" on BRS leaders and elected women representatives who came along with him to the State Women's Commission. He appealed to the Commission to take up the issue suo moto and initiate an inquiry.

The BRS leader said that Mahila Congress workers led by their president had indulged in the attack taking advantage of the occasion, and that assailants used devices such as nail cutters for the attack. This was a reprehensible act calling for condemnation, he said.

KTR further said that he wanted to take up the plight of women in the State during the last eight months and tried to explain to the Chairperson multiple instances of atrocities on women and attacks on children. But the Commission wanted to approach it from a different angle, he said.

BRS MLAs Sabitha Indra Reddy & Sunitha Laxma Reddy, MLC Satyavathi Rathod, former MP Kavitha, BRS women corporators and women party leaders in large numbers accompanied KTR during his visit to the Women's Commission office.
