BRS working president K T Rama Rao today criticised the Congress government's decision to significantly raise the city RTC bus fares.
He said that the Rs 10 increase would place an overwhelming financial strain on daily commuters in Hyderabad, and described the decision as cruel and insensitive.
"With essential commodity prices rising, how can the poor manage if an extra Rs 500 is taken from each commuter every month?" he asked, and accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of exploiting the poor and middle classes through these "continuous fare increases".
KTR said that this was not the first time that the Congress government had raised fares. He said that the government had already raised the prices of student passes and T-24 tickets, and the 50% increase in the minimum fare now implemented showing a lack of consideration for commuters.
The BRS leader said that rather than support the TGSRTC, which was struggling financially due to the free bus scheme, in other ways, the government was choosing to offset the losses by burdening the regular passengers.
"This decision highlights the government's incompetence and misaligned priorities. The Chief Minister appears intent on extracting Rs 1 crore daily from the residents of Hyderabad," he said, and declared the fare increase as unacceptable and detrimental to the public.
