Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar today said that the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) was on the path to profitability.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, the minister said, "In the past decade, the RTC experienced a decline, leading many to question its very survival. However, the corporation is now transitioning from operating at a loss to generating profits. It is purchasing new buses and making fresh appointments. Over the last ten years, the previous government utilised funds belonging to RTC employees, but the current administration is now repaying those dues."
The minister added that the State government would continue to support the RTC, and would take steps to further strengthen the organisation.
Prabhakar also spoke about the achievement of providing 200 crore free rides for women on RTC buses. He claimed that women across the State were enjoying free transportation under the Mahalakshmi scheme for commuting to work, visiting temples and shopping, and congratulated the women who had benefited from the initiative, and the RTC drivers and conductors who contributed to its success.
Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Government Whip Beerla Ilaiah, Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, RTC MD Sajjanar, Hyderabad Collector Dasari Harichandana and other officials were present at the ceremony.
