24.05 Crore Zero Tickets Issued To Women So Far On TSRTC Buses

The average number of daily free rides for women increased from 26.99 lakhs in December to 30.56 lakhs in February.
Hyderabad | 7th March 2024
The Mahalakshmi scheme has become popular among women in Telangana.

According to officials, so far about 24.05 crore zero tickets have been issued to women in TSRTC buses.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched the scheme, that allows women to travel free on TSRTC-operated non-luxury buses anywhere in Telangana, on December 9, 2023.

On average, 26.99 lakh free trips took place per day in December 2023. The number of average daily trips increased to 28.1 lakhs in January 2024, and further to 30.56 lakhs in February 2024.

Many hail the government's decision as a substantial saving for middle class and poor families who rely heavily on public transport. It is also beneficial for the jobless, and a safer option for those returning home late compared to taking a share-hire taxi.
