It is known that the Telangana government issued orders after the necessary bills were passed in the Assembly, to implement 42% reservations for BCs in the elections. However, a person by name Vanga Gopal Reddy approached the Supreme Court on September 29, challenging the orders given by the Telangana government on the local body elections.
According to the recently issued GO No 9 of the State government, 42% of the seats of the ZPTCs, MPTCs, Sarpanches and ward members in the local bodies have been reserved for the BCs. Arguing that the total reservations will exceed the 50% limit set by it, Reddy filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will hear his petition on Monday.
In this context, CM Revanth Reddy and Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka spoke on the phone today on the case. Reddy instructed the Deputy CM was to focus on the Supreme Court preceedings. Following that, Bhatti, some State ministers, and PCC chief Mahesh Goud will leave for Delhi tonight.
Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi will argue the issue on behalf of the State government in the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Telangana High Court will take up a petition filed by one Madhav Reddy on the issue of the BC reservations, on October 8. The High Court has already raised questions on the election announcement, asking why the election process was being taken forward when there was a case in the court. The court also objected to the State government's decision to issue the GO while the bill related to the BC reservations was still pending with the State governor.
