Little did the employees of Kukatpally Police Station foresee that they would deal with a love crime involving their colleagues.
On Monday morning, Srinivas, a constable hailing from the district of Ranga Reddy, fired at Lalitha after he got off his duty as the sentry. Lalitha works as a lady constable at the same station, and is a native of Annavaram, West Godavari.
Both Srinivas and Lalitha belong to the 2008 batch, and have been working at the Kukatpally Police Station for 2 years now. The duo are reportedly lovers, and were constantly quarelling over the past few days.
A senior police officer explained that Srinivas had fired at Lalitha, who was asleep at the time of attack, within the station, and then turned the barrel upon himself.
The police found a suicide note penned by Srinivas, which stated that he resorted to the crime as he believed that Lalitha was cheating on him.
The medical condition of Srinivas, who is at present being treated at the Apollo Hospital, has been termed 'critical', while Lalitha has succumbed to her wounds.
