The police have cracked the mystery behind the murder of Meerpet-based photographer Malkapuram Yasma Kumar.
The police have arrested a married woman named Swetha Reddy and her two associates in the case.
Revealing more details about the case, Meerpet CI Mahender Reddy said that Kumar was killed for blackmailing Swetha Reddy, a resident of Nandi Hills of Meerpet, over an extra-marital affair that he (Kumar) had with her.
Detailing the facts, the CI said that the couple had met in 2018 on Facebook, became close in a short span of time, and entered into an illicit relationship. Kumar had recorded nude videos of Swetha Reddy and saved them.
Later he demanded that she marry him. However Reddy rejected his demand. Angered at this, Kumar started threatening Reddy that he would make the nude videos public if she did not marry him.
Reddy then decided to kill Kumar, and sought the help of the former Vice Principal of a private school K Ashok and an electrician K Karthik. She called up Kumar and invited him to her house on the 4th of May. When Kumar reached Prasanthi Hills, Ashok and Karthik attacked him with a lethal weapon. Presuming him dead, they left the place. The victim, still alive, was later admitted to the L B Nagar Kamineni Hospital for treatment, and died while undergoing treatment on the 6th of this month.
The police cracked the case with the help of CC camera footage, and arrested Swetha Reddy and her two associates and remanded them to judicial custody.
