Despite a notice by the Election Commission, former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy launched his YSR Congress Party at 2.29pm from the YSR Ghat at Idupulapaya Estate in Kadapa district on Saturday, and unveiled its flag.
The Election Commission had directed the former MP not to go ahead with the unveiling of the flag since the Model Code was in force due to the Legislative Council elections to be held on March 17th.
Jaganmohan Reddy, however, replied to the notice saying that the event would be a family function, and thus would not be violating the Model Code.
Former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s widow and Jaganmohan Reddy’s mother, Y S Vijayalakshmi, was also present along with around a hundred supporters, including family members and legislators loyal to the former MP.
The flag of the YSR Congress Party is tri-coloured with blue, white and green vertical bands. It has symbols of the various schemes envisaged and launched by the former Chief Minister circling the picture of YSR in the middle of the white band.
Earlier on Friday, Jaganmohan Reddy had revealed that he would announce modalities and party agenda after the by-elections for the Kadapa Lok Sabha and the Pulivendula Assembly constituencies. He also revealed that the maiden plenary session of the new party would be held after the by-elections.
Jaganmohan Reddy also sought the cooperation of all the people, and expressed confidence that it would rule the state ‘very soon’.
He had added that the new party was aimed to bring happiness and smiles on the faces of all the state’s people.
