The TDP high command today suspended party worker and Youtuber Chebrolu Kiran, who reportedly made indecent remarks about Y S Bharathi, the wife of YSRCP president and former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The party issued a statement saying that such comments against women would not be tolerated, and that the party's high command had asked the police to file a case and arrest Kiran.
The Guntur police traced the accused using technical evidence and arrested him near Ibrahimpatnam on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway while he was attempting to flee.
Kiran, aged 40 and a resident of Koritapadu, had already gained notoriety through controversial videos. He has a criminal record with five prior cases, including for offensive remarks against former minister Vidadala Rajini.
In the current case, he issued an apology, saying that the comments were made in the heat of the moment.
However, the controversy has not subsided. YSRCP leaders are still outraged, saying that the comments were disrespectful to women and unbecoming of political discourse.
It is worth noting that, in the past, YSRCP leader Vallabhaneni Vamsi had also made inappropriate comments about TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu's wife, Bhuvaneshwari. Those remarks triggered a major uproar at that time, with TDP leaders and supporters strongly condemning Vamsi's statements.
