The Vijayawada ACB court today remanded YSRCP MP Mithun Reddy, the sole accused in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, to judicial custody till August 1.
Following the court's orders, the police shifted Reddy to the Rajahmundry Central Jail.
Reddy was first taken from the SIT office to the Vijayawada Government Hospital for a medical examination. Doctors conducted blood pressure, sugar and ECG tests on him, and confirmed that he had no health issues. Subsequently, the officials presented him before the ACB court.
SIT advocate Koteswara Rao and Mithun's senior counsel Nagarjuna Reddy presented their arguments before the court. The SIT submitted 28 reasons for Reddy's arrest, and informed the court that a case had been registered against him under IPC sections 409, 420, and 120(B) read with 34 and 37, and under Sections 7, 7A, 8, 19(1)(B) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Rao requested that Reddy be remanded to the Guntur sub-jail, as he would be taken into police custody for further investigation.
Arguing that Mithun Reddy was an MP with Y-category security, his lawyers requested that he be provided with a special barrack in the Nellore jail for security reasons. They also brought to the court's attention that Reddy had served as a panel speaker of the Lok Sabha and that the Lok Sabha Speaker had not been informed of his arrest.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court ordered judicial remand for Reddy until August 1.
