Youth Gets 3-Year RI For Harassing, Slapping Girl For Love
A youth in Alair named V Basanth was today sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,500 for harassing a girl in the name of love.

A youth named V Basanth, 25, was today sentenced to three years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,500 for harassing a girl in 2017 in the name of love.
The case dates to 2017. The Alair police had on October 27, 2017, received a complaint from a 16-year-old girl residing at Alair and studying Intermediate 1st year that for two weeks a V Basanth, 20, had been following and harassing her in the name of love.
On October 26, 2017, the girl had as usual gone to college, and was returning home at about 2 pm. When she and her classmate were walking towards the college gate, Basanth stood with a bike at the college entrance and started harassing her in the name of love and had misbehaved with her. But she bluntly told him that she did not like him, and also that her family wanted her to study.
Enraged, Basanth slapped her. In the meantime, fellow students of the college who were also coming out observed the incident and informed the Principal. On seeing the Principal coming towards him, Basanth fled.
Based on the complaint, the Alair police registered a case and took up investigation. Today, Judge K Maruthi Devi of the 1st ADJ court at Bhongir convicted Basanth and sentenced him to three years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,500.
