Seven Years Rigorous Imprisonment For Dowry Death
One Chinthala Sathyanarayana of Jagadgirigutta was convicted of the dowry death of Chintala Swapna in 2016, and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for seven years.

The III ADJ-cum-Metropolitan Sessions Court, Medchal-Malkajgiri, at Kukatpally today convicted one Chinthala Sathyanarayana of Venkateshwara Nagar, Jagadgirigutta, for the dowry death of Chintala Swapna on July 2, 2016, and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for seven years and a fine of Rs 5,000.
Police said that Sathyanarayana had married Swapna, aged 25, in 2011. At the time of her marriage, her parents had given Rs 80,000 in cash, 30 gm of gold and several household items to Sathyanarayana.
The couple was blessed with two children. However, Sathyanarayana used to consume alcohol and tortured his sister mentally and physically for additional dowry. Due to the unbearable harassment, Swapna became vexed with life and killed herself on July 2, 2016, in her bathroom by pouring kerosene on herself and setting herself ablaze.
Based on a complaint from her brother, the police registered a case and took up investigation.
