High on his
record-breaking victory in the Kadapa by-elections, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy challenged the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to a state-wide election.
Jagan expressed confidence that neither party has a sizeable vote bank, and that both the parties would fail miserably in the event that elections are conducted in the near future.
He reiterated his belief that "fresh faces are always better than old ones in politics." Jagan opined that his landslide victory in the Kadapa by-elections was reflective of the fact that the people of the district found him and his mother to be more reliable than any established political leader.
The issuance of this challenge raises eyebrows, especially as a few members of the YSR Congress Party, soon after the declaration of the by-election results, stated that their party's President would not make any efforts to topple the government.
The young leader also said that he would accept Congress member and his uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy into the folds of the YSR Congress Party, if the latter so wishes.
Moving on to the topic of suffering farmers, Jagan explained that he was embarking on a
2-day fast in Guntur in an attempt to draw the attention of the state and the Union governments to the plight of the farmers.
He also listed the various events he had conducted for the cause of the state's farmers thus far, and added that the government's welfare schemes were nothing more than an eyewash.
