Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is set to express his solidarity with the farmers who are unable to get the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their paddy grains by embarking on a hunger strike for 2 days.
Jagan will hold a hunger strike in the district of Guntur on the 15th and the 16th of May, and will reportedly demand that the farmers be provided with a bonus of Rs. 100 per quintal of paddy, in addition to the MSP.
Ambati Rambabu and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Jagan's loyalists, on Thurday toured Guntur to pick a suitable venue for their leader to set up camp. Keeping in mind the blazing sun and soaring temperatures, the 2 YSR Congress Party members strove to find an apt location that is close to the affected farmers and is within easy reach of drinking water facilies.
With the Kadapa by-elections out of the way, both the YSR Congress Party and the
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) seem to have zeroed in upon the 3-month-old plight of the state's farmers to get themselves to the forefront of the political scene.
Lok Satta Party President Jayaprakash Narayan and Telangana Rashtra Samithi chief K Chandrasekhar Rao are other politicos who are demanding that the government ensure that the farmers get the MSP for their paddy.
