The Telangana Rashtra Samithi led by K Chandrasekhar Rao is all set to form the first government in Telangana, with the party heading for an absolute majority in the Assembly polls.
According to final reports, the TRS won 63 assembly seats (60 is the mark required for a simple majority), followed by 20 for the TDP-BJP combine, 21 for the Congress, and 7 for the MIM, out of the 119 seats.
Of the 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Telangana region, the TRS bagged 11 seats, followed by 2 for the TDP-BJP combine, 2 for the Congress and 1 for the MIM (where it is leading).
The Seemandhra assembly polls have the TDP-BJP combine winning 106 seats (88 is the mark required for a simple majority), the YSRCP winning 67 and leading in 5 (67 overall), and the MIM winning 2 of the total 175.
In the Seemandhra region's Lok Sabha constituencies, the TDP-BJP alliance won 17 seats, and the YSRCP won the remaining 8, of 25 Lok Sabha seats.
As widely expected, the Congress got completely blanked out in Seemandhra. What was surprising was its dismal performance in Telangana, too.
