After retaining its Nagarjuna Sagar seat with
a thumping majority, it seems like the TRS is continuing its victorious streak in the municipal elections held across two municipal corporations and five municipalities as well.
The party has captured six urban local bodies, and is currently leading in another.
Elections for 66 wards of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and 60 wards of the Khammam Municipal Corporation were held between 7 am and 5 pm on April 30. Polling was also be held in over 200 wards in the municipalities of Siddipet and Achampet in Nagarkurnool district, Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district, Kothur in Rangareddy district and Nakrekal in Nalgonda district.
So far, the pink party has successfully captured the Siddipet, Kothur, Nakrekal, Atchampet and Jadcherla municipalities and has retained the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation as well. It is also leading the race in the Khammam Municipal Corporation.
The TRS' candidates captured 48 of the 66 wards in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation while the BJP managed to win a meagre 10 wards and the Congress bagged only four wards.
These results should more than satisfy those claiming that the ruling party has been facing a massive anti-incumbency wave in the state. The results have proved beyond doubt that the TRS enjoys the full support of Telangana's people
Both its primary rivals, the Congress and the BJP, faced humiliating defeats in the elections.
These wins come after the TRS won not only
two MLC seats in the recent graduates' constituencies' elections and the Nagarjuna Sagar by-election as well.
