Following the declaration of the results of the
recently-held municipal elections in Telangana, in which the TRS fared exceedingly well, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today appointed observers who were tasked with overseeing the appointment of Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons to the seven ULBs.
The Chief Minister, visibly elated by his party's
thumping victory in the elections, has decided that he will oversee the appointments for two of the seven municipal corporations.
The details of the appointments will reportedly be sent to the ULBs in sealed envelopes. The decision of the TRS supremo, KCR, will be binding in the matter.
KCR has appointed ministers Indrakaran Reddy and Gangula Kamalakar to oversee the appointments for the Warangal municipal corporation, and minister V Prashant Reddy and TRS general secretary N Naresh Reddy to do so for the Khammam municipal corporation.
For the appointments to the Kothur ULB, the CM appointed a close aide, Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, as the overseer, and picked NRLM Resource Cell Mission Manager T Ravinder Rao to helm the appointment process for the Nakrekal ULB. For Siddipet, former Karimnagar Mayor Ravinder Singh and Forest Development Corporation Chairman V Prathap Reddy will do the same.
For Achampet, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy will head the process, while the appointments for the Jadcherla municipal body will be overseen by Civil Supplies Corporation Chairman M Srinivas Reddy.
KCR has instructed the observers to reach their respective municipalities by Thursday evening. They have been told to hold meetings with corporators, councillors, and election observers to begin the election process. They will monitor the process, and subsequently, appoint the officials to the seven ULBS.
