TRS MPs stormed the podiums of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha against the remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana state.
They held placards and shouted slogans against the Prime Minister and demanded that he apologise for the remarks.
They also demanded action against the remarks.
TRS MPs Keshava Rao and Nama Nageshwar Rao served privilege motion notices to the Secretary General of the Parliament in this regard, and sent copies to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
They then boycotted Parliament, and vowed to re-enter it only after action was taken against Modi.
"We are boycotted the houses against the comments of the Prime Minister who insulted the statehood and sacrifices of our people for Telangana," Keshava Rao said. "Our protests will continue until appropriate action is taken in this regard. The entire state is protesting against the remarks of Modi, and he should tender an apology and withdraw his remarks. And the Centre should start to deliver on the bifurcation promises if Modi cares so much, and help Telangana in its development."
During the motion of thanks for the President's address to Parliament, Modi had said in the Rajya Sabha that the mother had been killed to give birth to the child, and that injustice was done to Andhra Pradesh. That resulted in the two Telugu states continuing to fight, he had said.
