Alleging that BJP candidate Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy was distributing money and liquor to voters in the Munugodu Assembly constituency when polling was underway, the ruling TRS on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
TRS leaders, including MP Badugu Lingaiah Yadav, Dasoju Shravan and Ramesh Reddy, called on Chief Election Officer Vikas Raj at Buddha Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking action against those who were involved in the distribution of money and liquor.
Speaking on the occasion, MP Lingaiah Yadav said that the BJP was killing democracy and the spirit of constitution, and was misusing all the constitutional bodies for gaining political benefits in the Munugodu by-election.
He said that the by-election had come in the first place as part of a conspiracy hatched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and that both leaders were now also trying to create a terror-like situation by the deployment of para-military forces in the constituency.
The TRS MP also lashed out at BJP State unit president Bandi Sanjay and party candidate Raj Gopal Reddy for staging dharnas at different places ahead of the polling day, and said that both were enacting dramas in a bid to divert the attention of people and to gain sympathy.
He said that he had urged the ECI to stop the distribution of money and liquor to voters, and to take steps to ensure free and fair elections.
