The Congress has strongly condemned the attack on its Munugodu candidate Palvai Sravanthi by some "BJP goons" in the Nampally mandal on Sunday.
Hyderabad | 23rd October 2022
The Congress has strongly condemned the attack on its candidate for the Munugodu by-election Palvai Sravanthi by some "BJP goons" while she was campaigning in the Nampally mandal on Sunday.

"The attack on Palvai Sravanthi's convoy is highly condemnable. This clearly shows that BJP and also the TRS leaders are trembling with the fear of a humiliating defeat. They are unable to digest the tremendous response to the Congress campaign in the Munugodu constituency, and consequently they have engaged goondas to attack our candidate Sravanthi," Nalgonda MP Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

Reddy claimed that the BJP and TRS were upset over the resentment they were facing during their campaign. The Munugodu voters had been questioning the failures of the two parties, and the leaders of the two parties were being greeted with 'Go Back' slogans in almost all villages, he said. And unable to take the backlash, BJP candidate Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, who Uttam Kumar Reddy claimed had betrayed the Congress and also the people of Munugodu for selfish gains, was now resorting to physical attacks on the Congress candidate to vent out his frustration and fear, Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

However, the Congress would not get intimidated by such attacks, and it would intensify its campaign further, Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

The Congress MP added that the entry of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra into Telangana on Sunday had boosted the morale of the entire Congress cadre across the State, and especially of those of the Munugodu constituency. The BJP and the TRS now feared that Gandhi's presence in Telangana during the Munugodu by-election campaigning would have a favourable impact on the Congress candidate's propects, and so the BJP chose to physically attack Sravanthi while the TRS supported the BJP by not taking any action against the BJP goons, Reddy alleged.

For the uninitiated, Palvai Sravanthi's convoy was attacked by some people by pelting stones at it when she was campaigning in the Nampally mandal. She later lodged a formal complaint with the district Superintendent of Police. Sravanthi alleged that the local police were however not taking any action on the complaint.

Aggrieved by the inaction, the Congress workers held a protest demanding action against the attackers. And the party posted a video of the protest on its official Twitter handle @INCTelangana demanding stern action against the "BJP leaders" who had "hired the goons" to attack the Congress candidate.

Meanwhile, TPCC President A Revanth Reddy also condemned the attack. In a tweet, Reddy said that the attack was a sign of the BJP's panic. He also demanded that the Election Commission of India disqualify the BJP candidate Rajagopal Reddy from the contest.
