BRS Working President K T Rama Rao today strongly condemned the Congress government's move to seek a CBI probe against former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and called it an insult to the people of Telangana.
"Telangana witnessed its golden era under KCR's leadership. He secured Hyderabad's drinking water needs for the next 50 years and transformed the State through irrigation projects including Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar. Targeting such a leader with baseless allegations is a disgrace," KTR said.
Speaking at a function to welcome Congress leader Prabhakar Rao and his followers from Manuguru in the Pinapaka constituency into the BRS, KTR also claimed that no leader in Indian politics had achieved as much progress in a decade as KCR did. He said that mega projects like Kaleshwaram, Sitarama and Palamuru-Rangareddy lifted Telangana from 14th place in agriculture in 2014 to becoming one of the country's leading food producers. "Kaleshwaram alone lifts 2 TMC of water daily, irrigating lakhs of acres and supplying drinking water to countless villages," he said.
KTR also accused the Congress of double standards. He asked how the same CBI that Rahul Gandhi once dubbed "Modi's pocket organization" was now being praised by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. "This hypocrisy exposes the miserable state of the Congress," he said.
"In just 21 months, Congress rule has thrown Telangana into chaos. Farmers are forced to stand in long queues, leaving their shoes behind, just to purchase urea," he added.
The senior BRS leader also accused the Congress and the BJP of conspiring to defame KCR, and said that they could not digest the people's affection for him.
