The Nagarjuna Sagar project (NSP) has become a centre of attraction now as 10 radial crest gates of the project are being lifted to release over one lakh cusecs of water into the downstream Pulichintala project.
With floodwaters coming from the Srisailam reservoir continuously, the beauty of the project and the spectacular water flow from the dam was on full display for the visitors thronging the dam in large numbers on Sunday.
With Sunday being a holiday, the number of tourists visiting the project site was huge compared to those in the last few days. People started coming to the project site since the morning itself.
Meanwhile, the police have imposed restrictions to prevent any untoward incidents on the project site. As part of the precautionary measures, the road leading to the Nagarjuna Sagar main dam was completely closed, and the visitors' area at the power house was also closed. The police appealed to the people not to come near the project site to take photos and selfies from their mobile phones.
The NSP is currently 587.30 feet of water against the full water level of 590 feet. Similarly, there is 305.68 TMCs of water currently against 312.50 TMC, the full storage capacity of the project. Right now the project is receiving 1,17,396 cusecs of inflow, and the same is being released downstream.
