With huge inflows from upstream, the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) constructed across the Krishna river is nearing its Full Reservoir Level (FRL).
The project is currently receiving more than 5 lakh cusecs (cubic feet per second) of flood waters from the upstream Srisailam reservoir.
The water storage capacity of the project is 312.505 TMC ft, and 266.358 TMC ft of water is stored at present. While the full water level of the project is 590 feet, the current water level has reached 573.9 feet. As the inflow continues, the project is likely to be full by Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the authorities are making arrangements to lift the project gates by 8 AM on Monday. About 2 lakh cusecs of water will be released downstream. At first the crust gates will be lifted to some extent, and later the water will be released downstream.
