Hyderabad | 22nd February 2017
Tension prevailed at various places in Hyderabad as students and the youth tried to take out a rally in response to the call given by TJAC Chairman M Kodandaram demanding jobs for the unemployed as promised by the ruling TRS.
The TJAC in a determined bid to organize its proposed rally of unemployed youth (Nirudyogula Rally) by defying the ban orders imposed in the city, made vain attempts to go ahead with it from Sundarayya Vignana Kendram to Indira Park. However, the police swung into action the moment the protesters tried to gather to participate in a rally at various places and whisked them away in police vans.
As a precautionary measure, the police also swooped down on the residence of Kodandaram at Tarnaka in Secunderabad and arrested him along with other leaders.
This triggered tensions in many places including in the OU Campus, Nizam College, PG College in Secunderabad etc.
In addition, hundreds of students of these colleges, who had boycotted classes and were trying to go out in rallies, were also prevented by the police. This led to clashes between the students and police.
The agitators also indulged in stone pelting resulting in injuries to some police personnel. Some students even made a vain attempt to attack the Kamatipura police station.
The TJAC leaders lodged a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission over the arrest of Kodandaram and scores of students and youth leaders. They demanded that necessary action be initiated against the alleged high-handed action of the police authorities.
