After a simmering Sunday, Osmania University woke up to a tense Monday on December 4 as the police and the students engaged in a violent clash on the university campus.
The cops were trying to disrupt a rally being organized by the students protesting the suicide yesterday of E Murali (a first year M Sc student of OU), when the latter started pelting stones at the police. This led to a lathi-charge by the police personnel.
The students soon congregated on the Arts College premises and sat on a protest demanding that the state government pay an ex-gratia to the kin of Murali.
As many as 34 students were later arrested for resorting to provocative acts.
Earlier, the police had also arrested TPCC official spokesperson Addanki Dayakar and other Congress leaders when they came to the OU campus to "console" the students who had suffered injuries in the police action on Sunday.
Meanwhile, giving the incident a political hue, Congress leader A Revanth Reddy said, "Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is behind the incident. He is targeting every one who has participated in the separate Telangana movement."
Reddy also demanded that the state government initiate action against the police personnel who had attacked the mediapersons covering the incidents at the Osmania University on Sunday.
Two other party leaders, T Jeevan Reddy and D Sravan, also waded into the issue, and said that the state government should announce Rs 50 lakhs in ex-gratia to the kin of Murali.
Holding the CM responsible for the OU student's death, the party said that the police should file a case against KCR.
