Protesting the "suppressive" attitude of the state government towards the proposed Telangana JAC unemployed youth rally (Nirudyogula Rally), the Osmania University Students' JAC has given a call for an educational institutions bandh on February 23.
On Wednesday, tension prevailed in the Osmania University campus when the police refused to allow a rally proposed to be taken by the students to extend their support to Telangana JAC's proposed unemployment rally.
The students reached the NCC gate where the police obstructed them leading to a jostling between the police and the students. The police detained several students. The remaining students then returned to their hostels.
Later, however, some students reached the Tagore Auditorium and burnt the Osmania University Centenary Celebrations "kamaan" erected there. The fire staff reached the spot and controlled the fire. The police, too, reached Tagore Auditorium in big numbers.
Earlier, a student named Sandeep Chamar tried to immolate himself at the Arts College gate. He poured petrol upon his body and tried to set himself on fire. The alert police detained the student.
Protesting all the arrests, the Osmania University JAC demanded that the state government release the leaders immediately.
