The police arrested Telangana Political JAC chairman M Kodandaram at his residence at Tarnaka on Saturday when the latter started to go to Tank Bund to attend the attempted Million March Spoorthy Yatra.
The police shifted Kodandaram to a police station in his own vehicle when the latter resisted getting into a police vehicle.
They arrested his followers too, leading to tension for some time in Tarnaka. JAC activists raised slogans against the government saying that it could not stop the aspirations of the people by arresting them.
The police shifted Kodandaram to the Bollaram Police station. They also detained CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy at Maqdhoom Bhavan and former MLC Kapilavai Dileep Kumar at Tank Bund.
To see that no untoward incident took place, the police had also erected 350 check-posts around Tank Bund and barricades on two sides of Tank Bund.
Earlier, Kodandaram, speaking to the media, claimed that the TRS was afraid that the people may question its government if they became conscious of the real goings-on through the Million March Spoorthy Sabha, and hence made the police arrest thousands of JAC activists including him. The police were not even providing food to the leaders arrested by them yesterday, he alleged, and said that the JAC would approach the courts on the arrests.
He also said that the ban on the march and the repeated obstructions to the programs being planned and taken up by JAC had only increased his resolve to wage a movement for the rights of the people.
