Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today announced that the Telangana government had decided not to accept the Rs 100 crore donation offered by the Adani group for the Skill University.
Speaking to the media at his residence, he said that the Skill University was started with good intentions, and the State government did not want to make it controversial. For that reason, the government had decided not to accept the Rs 100 crore donation from the group, he said.
The government had written a letter to the group requesting it not to transfer the donation, he said.
The CM said that some forces had been accusing the State government of accepting funds from the Adani group despite his own criticising the group in the past. However, as per the rules everyone needed to be given the opportunity to invest legally, he said, and he had done just that.
"Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made it clear that the company which won the bids according to the rules would be given the opportunity to invest. Several companies came forward to provide funds for the corpus fund of the Skill University. The Adani group was one of them, and announced a Rs 100 crore donation, which we accepted as it was according to the rules," he explained.
"I appeal to all media personnel to stop viewing the issue from a political angle and making it controversial," Reddy said.
