The Sakala Janula Samme, or the "people's general strike", is set to intensify further, with the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee announcing another schedule of protests that will last till 11 October.
Addressing a press conference after the JAC meeting in Hyderabad on Monday, TP-JAC chairman Prof. M Kodandaram announced the new agitation schedule.
RTC employees will hold a massive rally on 27 September. The next day, Telangana activists will organise
rasta roko protests across the state capital.
On 29 September, the residences of Telangana ministers and other elected representatives will be '
gheraoed' in protest against power cuts that are allegedly discrimination against Telangana.
The JAC has called for a Telangana bandh on 30 September.
On 1 October, torch rallies will be taken out across the region.
People have been asked to boycott payments at all toll gates in the Telangana region, on 2 October.
The agitation will be "softened" from 3 to 8 October, in view of Dussehra.
However, the JAC said, awareness shows will be conducted for 3 days during the Bathukamma festival, from 3 October.
According to Prof. Kodandaram, the Telangana JAC has also decided to call for a 3-day
rail roko agitation from 9 October. He said that so far, the state government has not taken the general strike seriously, and that therefore, the JAC is being forced to schedule more protests.
Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao said that now the agitation will not be halted even for a day. He claimed that the agitation has been receiving immense support from all sections of society, and that therefore, it will continue till a separate Telangana is achieved.
KCR also the state government of creating an artificial power crisis to defame and sabotage the Telangana agitation. He said that instead of introducing power-cuts in a phased manner by starting from the domestic and industrial sectors, the CM had directly implemented power cuts for farmers in the Telangana region.
KCR has asked Telangana ministers and other elected representatives of the Congress party to prevail upon the CM to restore the regular power supply in the region.
He also advised Congress leaders against
visiting New Delhi, stating that they would achieve nothing by going there.
He said that instead of targeting Seemandhra leaders; Telangana activists must attack Telangana leaders who are not supporting the general strike. (INN)
