T Cong Set For 'Last' Delhi Visit

Congress leaders from the Telangana region will visit Delhi on 26 Sep to discuss Telangana with their party's High Command.
Hyderabad | 22nd September 2011
Congress leaders from the Telangana region will visit the national capital on 26 September to convince their party's High Command to take an immediate and "favourable" decision on the formation of a Telangana state.

If the leaders are to be believed, this would be their last visit to New Delhi on the issue.

Speaking to the media after a meeting of the Telangana Congress Steering Committee held at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao in Hyderabad on Thursday, the Congress leaders claimed that their Delhi visit would be the last in the series of attempts they have been making to convince the Congress High Command on Telangana.

"If we fail to achieve Telangana this time, the party will face serious consequences in the entire region," Nagarkurnool MP Manda Jagannatham said.

The Congress leaders will hold a dharna at Mahatma Gandhi's statue in New Delhi on 26 September, demanding statehood for Telangana.

They will also hold a rally from Gun Park to the state Secretariat on 23 September to express solidarity with the ongoing "Sakala Janula Samme" or "people's strike".

The press conference was addressed by MLAs Damodar Reddy and G Venkat Ramana, among others.

Meanwhile, sources say that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, too, has been summoned by the Congress High Command on 26 September to discuss the Telangana issue and the general strike.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, who is the the In-Charge of Congress Affairs in AP, as well as Union Health Minister is visiting Hyderabad on 26 September. However, Azad will be on an official visit, and therefore, might not meet his partymen or discuss the Telangana issue during his stay here. (INN)
