Congress MLAs from the Madiga community have intensified their efforts to secure a position for the community in the upcoming expansion of the Telangana Cabinet.
Madiga MLAs Adluri Laxman, Amdeli Samel, Kale Yadaya and Kavampalli Satyanarayana today met AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and General Secretary K C Venugopal in New Delhi and appealed to the party leadership for a Cabinet berth.
Over the past month, these MLAs have consistently engaged with the TPCC, the Chief Minister and the party's Telangana in-charge, advocating for their community's representation in the Cabinet.
Speaking to the media, the four legislators said that they had urged Kharge and Venugopal to ensure that a member of the Madiga community was included in the Cabinet, and that the leadership had responded positively.
"This is not merely about six MLAs from the Madiga community; this concerns the entire Madiga population. We hope that 200% justice will be done," said Laxman.
He added that the group had also sent a letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, pressing for adequate representation of their community. "We intend to meet Rahul Gandhi to present our request, subject to getting an appointment," he said.
He said that despite their significant population, the Madiga community had remained underrepresented in key political positions. He added that they did not mind who from the community the leadership chose for the ministerial posts, as long as representation was ensured.
"Some in the cabinet are claiming to represent our community. But the reality is that no Madiga has ever been part of the Telangana Cabinet. We are seeking authentic representation, not tokenism," they concluded.
