HC Censures Government In Mother-Child Death Case

The Telangana High Court turned serious over the death of a woman and her newborn child due to the "negligence" of the authorities of Jogulamba Gadwal district.
Hyderabad | 4th May 2020
The Telangana High Court today turned serious over the issue of the death of a woman and her newborn child due to the "negligence" of the authorities of Jogulamba Gadwal district recently.

It asked the state government to submit a detailed report in the issue.

A division bench of the High Court passed these orders while dealing with a letter written by advocate Karanam Kishore Kumar that it took suo moto notice of.

Kumar had written the letter describing the gut-wrenching experience that the pregnant girl had to go through as hospital after hospital refused admission to her due to her hailing from a Covid-19 containment area. She eventually gave birth to a boy but both the mother and the baby died eventually.

Kumar urged the High Court to take action against those who were responsible for the deaths of the victims. He told the court that the officials of the district had made the victim run around six hospitals of the state and forced them to travel over 200 km, for a simple medical problem.

He claimed that the victims had lost their lives as they could not properly comprehend the lockdown rules.
