The canteens, managed by the Hare Krishna Hare Rama Foundation, will benefit the poor, daily wage earners, auto drivers, small traders, low-income families and the unemployed.
During the inauguration, the minister, Mayor, MP, MLA and GHMC officials personally served meals to several people, with sanitation workers joining them for lunch.
Prabhakar said several welfare programmes had been launched under the Congress government, including the distribution of over 60,000 ration cards in Hyderabad.
He added that other welfare measures such as free bus travel, free household electricity, and interest-free loans were also being implemented in line with Indiramma's vision. He urged every woman in the city to join a Self-Help Group (SHG) to benefit from government schemes and strengthen Hyderabad's brand image.
Mayor Vijayalakshmi said that the canteens would greatly benefit poor and low-income families, and announced plans to open about 150 Indiramma Canteens across Greater Hyderabad, to be managed by SHGs to empower women. MP Anil Kumar Yadav added that the Mint Campus canteen would serve as a boon for economically weaker sections.
