As part of the Haritha Haram program for the expansion of the green cover across the State, Telangana MA&UD Minister K T Rama Rao today asked the officials concerned to set up one government nursery in every civic body.
At a high-level review meeting with officials, KTR said, "On the directive of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, we should work out a plan to set up a nursery in every civic body in all districts."
The minister said that there had been a good response from the people to the government proposal of giving permissions for new house constructions only when saplings were planted. He asked the officials to implement this in all districts - plant saplings in all new buildings henceforth.
The minister also asked officials to develop 210 road junctions in the twin cities in a phased manner - in the first phase 10 road junctions should be enhanced with LED lights, zebra crossings and pedestrian ways, and beautified, and the rest should be completed gradually thereafter.
Rs. 60 crores were allocated for the development of the 210 junctions, he said. Works related to 89 junctions needed no land acquisition and would cost Rs 12.5 crores, and if land acquisition was needed for the other roads and junctions, another round of meetings would be conducted, he added.
To prepare an action plan for developing the roads and junctions, he asked the officials of the Roads & Buildings, Transport, Traffic Police and other departments to get involved.
