Leaders of the Shepherds' Welfare Association staged a unique protest today by sending sheep to the Congress' State headquarters, Gandhi Bhavan.
They raised concerns over the lack of representation for the Golla and Kuruma communities within the Congress and the Telangana State government. They claimed that the Yadava community had historically held positions in the cabinet but that currently there was no representation for their communities in the government.
"It is deeply disappointing that the Golla and Kuruma communities have not been given a Cabinet position for the first time in the history of Telangana. Furthermore, no members from our communities have been appointed as chairpersons of any corporations," one leader said.
Later, the leaders met TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud and submitted a memorandum requesting fair representation for their communities in the party and government. During the meeting, the TPCC chief assured them that justice would be done.
He also said that he would bring their concerns - especially those related to sheep and goat rearing - to the attention of Animal Husbandry Minister Vakati Srihari, and ensure that the issues were addressed promptly.
