Leaders of the Banjara community today requested that the State government provide representation for their community in the Telangana cabinet.
They also called for representation for the Banjaras in the Legislative Council, in the Rajya Sabha and in other appointed positions in Telangana, based on their population.
Elected representatives, scholars, employees and members of the Banjara community convened in Hyderabad and collectively put forth several other requests too including the establishment of a Thanda Development Corporation and the formation of a specialised SIT Commission to promote the community's development.
They also requested that 3 acres of land be set aside for landless and impoverished tribal individuals, and that Thandas be recognised as revenue village panchayats in the State.
Deputy Speaker Ramachandra Nayak, MP Balram Nayak and MLC Shankar Nayak were present in the meeting.
