Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy on Friday alleged that ruling TRS was trying to lure away strong candidates of the Congress for the municipal elections and make them withdraw from contest.
Reddy accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of indulging in immoral and unethical practices continuously to weaken the Opposition parties, and of bringing disrepute to Telangana by repeatedly insulting the Constitution in the last six years.
He said that KCR had legitimized the culture of purchase of elected representatives. In his first term KCR had purchased over 25 MLAs, MLCs and MPs of the Opposition parties, especially the Congress. And in the second term, the Chief Minister had engineered the defection of 12 MLAs to deprive the Congress of the status of main Opposition party.
The Congress leader alleged that TRS leaders were now trying to lure the strong candidates of the Congress for the upcoming municipal elections.
He said that it was strange that the ruling party had not only poached elected representatives, it was also poaching the candidates of Opposition parties.
However, the Congress cadre would defeat all such conspiracies and win a majority of the wards in all the municipalities and municipal corporations, Reddy claimed.
"The people have to introspect on whether they are casting their votes in favour of a person who is upholding the democratic values or for those who are acting like aristocratic rulers. Only the people can teach a lesson to such persons who are disrespecting the democratic values of our system," he said.
