Acting on a tip-off, the Bachupally police today arrested an individual involved in the possession and circulation of counterfeit currency.
The accused, Prathipati Prem Chandu, a resident of West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, came into contact with one Rakesh, a resident of Pune, who informed him about a method to earn easy money by distributing counterfeit currency notes. Acting on Rakesh's instructions, Chandu agreed to deliver the fake currency to individuals in Hyderabad for a commission.
On June 21, 2025, at around 3:30 pm, Chandu was found near the Nizampet Arch, preparing to deliver counterfeit 500-rupee notes.
The police arrested him on the spot. A total of 15,00,000 in counterfeit currency and a Redmi mobile phone were seized from his possession. Chandu was produced before the local Magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.
