Hyderabad | 18th December 2017
Following a thumping BJP victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the Telangana BJP today organised victory celebrations on a grand scale.
A large number of party workers gathered at the state BJP office at Nampally where they burst crackers and distributed sweets. State party chief Dr K Laxman, former union minister Bandaru Dattatreya, BJP floor leader in the state Assembly G Kishan Reddy and Khairatabad MLA Chintala Ramachandra Reddy flashed the 'V' sign for victory at the crowds. Party activists raised slogans in support of the BJP, and chants of "Modi, Modi" rent the air.
Speaking to the media later, Dr. Laxman said that people from all over the country supported the development vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including the decisions on demonetization and GST, and that was reflected in the outcome of the latest elections.
Slamming the Congress and AICC President Rahul Gandhi for spreading a "venomous" campaign against the BJP and Modi, he stated that the voters have given them a fitting response by rejecting them and giving their verdict in favour of the PM. The continued huge support for the BJP in successive elections clearly showed that the goal of a "Congress-mukt" Bharat was going to be realized soon, he claimed.
Dr. Laxman also said that the party's central leaders would now concentrate on south India, and on the states of Karnataka and Telangana in particular. He asserted that the BJP would very quickly become an alternative to the TRS in Telangana and would wrest power in the 2019 elections, as the "anti-people and anti-farmer" policies of the state government had the population of the state disillusioned.
G Kishan Reddy said that the people of Gujarat had rejected the caste-politics of the Congress, and that the achievement of Rahul Gandhi after his coronation as AICC president was to hand over the state of Himachal Pradesh to the BJP on a golden platter.
Dattatreya described the BJP victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh as a "moral victory" for the party.
