Actor-turned-politician Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party, which contested for the first time in Telangana Assembly elections, suffered a terrible defeat.
Its candidates lost their deposits (i. e. they polled less than 1/6th of the votes) in all the constituencies the party contested.
(The deposit amount is Rs. 10,000.)
Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan himself campaigned in the Kukatpally, Tandur and Kothagudem Assembly constituencies for the party's candidates, but his campaigning did not help them.
Jana Sena had allied with the BJP for the Telangana Assembly elections and contested in eight constituencies. As mentioned, in none of the seats did the party's candidates manage to at least get their deposits back.
The Jana Sena contested in the Khammam, Kothagudem, Vaira, Aswaraopet, Kukatpally, Tandur, Kodada and Nagarkurnool Assembly constituencies.
Meanwhile, candidates of the electoral ally of the JSP, the BJP, also lost deposits in 88 Assembly seats.
The saffron party performed miserably despite campaigning by stalwarts including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
BJP MPs Bandi Sanjay and Dharmapuri Arvind, and former minister and Huzurabad sitting MLA Etala Rajender, are among the BJP leaders who lost the elections.
