The Telugu Desam Party has constituted a 5-member committee to study the land allocations made by the state government to set up Special Economic Zones in Andhra Pradesh.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, on Thursday, set up the 5-person study team to look into the allocation of a large chunk of land for Special Economic Zones in Kakinada.
Naidu nominated senior leaders Kodela Shivprasad Rao, Kaluva Srinivasulu, Konakalla Narayana and M Kishan Reddy, who will visit Kakinada on 14 April and study the issue.
Based on the study report submitted by the team, Naidu will visit the Kakinada SEZ region on 19 April and extend support to the farmers there, who have launched an agitation against the government for taking away their land and their livelihood.
It may be mentioned here that the farmers in Kakinada have been staging agitations demanding the restoration of lands acquired by the government in the name of SEZs.
They alleged that neither were they paid compensation by the government nor was the SEZ set up. (INN)
