Erasu Quits Cabinet, Congress

Erasu Pratap Reddy resigns from his post and quits the Congress party, protesting the division of Andhra Pradesh.

Law Minister Erasu Pratap Reddy on Friday resigned from his post in protest against the division of Andhra Pradesh. He also announced his resignation from his role in the primary membership of the Congress party.

Erasu called on Governor E S L Narasimhan on Friday, and requested him to accept the resignation. His meeting with the Governor preceded the emergency meeting called by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy (with Seemandhra leaders), to discuss the future plan.

Talking to reporters later, Erasu condemned the decision of the Union Cabinet, and said that the Congress party would be totally wiped out from the Seemandhra region. (INN)
