Despite all the surveillance by law-enforcing authorities, criminals continue to try to smuggle in innovative ways.
In the latest such incident in the Shamshabad airport, gold worth Rs 1.06 crore was seized from a passenger who was smuggling it in from Dubai.
Customs and DRI officials arrested the passenger.
The person left for Hyderabad from Dubai, and when he reached the Shamshabad airport, he was worried on seeing customs officials examining passengers' luggage at the airport.
He walked around at the airport fearing getting caught, and that made the authorities eventually suspicious of him. He was detained at the international exit, and upon being checked thoroughly, two large gold bars in the shape of batteries were discovered in his shoes.
The gold weighed 1390.85 grams.
A case was registered and he was taken into custody. He is currently being interrogated by the officials.
