Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted two passengers who arrived in Hyderabad from Guwahati via a Spicejet flight, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Tuesday.
On examination, two gold bars in the shape of cuboids and concealed by silver coating were discovered on them.
On further interrogation, the passengers admitted that they had smuggled the gold into the country, and that they did not have any documents to prove the licit purchase or import of the gold.
The gold, which weighed 1,000 grams and has been valued at Rs. 31.68 lakhs, was seized under the Customs Act.
