Customs Officials Seize 14.9 Kg Gold From 23 Sudanese
Officials of the customs department seized 14.9063 kg of gold from the possession of 23 Sudanese nationals at the Rajiv Gandhi international airport in Hyderabad.
Officials of the Air Intelligence unit of the customs department seized 14.9063 kg of gold from the possession of 23 Sudanese nationals at the Rajiv Gandhi international airport in Hyderabad on February 22.
The seizure was made based on the passenger profiling intelligence developed by the customs officials.
The officials identified and intercepted 23 Sudanese nationals at the airport who arrives arrived from Sudan via Sharjah by flight G9 458 on February 22 at 4 am.
Upon thorough search of the passengers and their baggage, it was found that they were attempting to smuggle gold by concealing it in at different places of their bodies and clothes.
The customs officers found a total of 14.9063 kg of gold consisting of 14.415 kg of 22 carat and 0.491 kg of 24 carat gold.
The market value of the seized gold is Rs 7,89,43,544.
Given the quantity recovered, four passengers were arrested under the Indian Customs Act, 1962.
